Corey Smith and Luke Combs
Corey Smith is a country/rock/blues singer and guitarist from Jefferson, Georgia who has been active as a musician since 2003.
Smith was raised in Jackson County and attended Gainesville State College yet shortly afterwards he moved to the University of West Georgia to be with his partner at the time who he later married. He originally studied Social Studies education and his music was more of a pass time, he didn’t particularly plan to forge a career in the music industry but he realised his country music talents when he began to write songs and play for selected friends at parties. At the age of 28 he began to put all of his time and effort into music.
‘Undertones’ was his first album and it was released through Razor & Tie records. It features an early single ‘Twenty One’ which is one of Corey’s most well known songs. ‘In The Mood’ was released a year later on Undertone Records who the songwriter has been releasing music with ever since. Corey continued to make music and tour to a loyal fan base for the following years as his commercial break didn’t come until 2011.
‘The Broken Record’ charted at #17 on the US Country charts, his highest position to date and also made top five on the US Folk and Heat charts. It was also a critical success and gained the country singer a far larger amount of notoriety. Since then he has only released one live album and a preceding single, yet there is no news on the next album.
Luke Combs
Originally from Asheville, North Carolina….
Luke Combs is a 26-year-old musician with a passion for playing country music. Luke began to develop his craft in the summer of 2011 while attending Appalachian State University and has been plowing ahead ever since. After 3 years playing with his band in his home state of North Carolina, Luke made the move to Nashville in September of 2014. Quickly creating a buzz amongst the musical community, Luke released his single “Hurricane” on June 16th of 2015 and saw it rise into the iTunes Country Charts Top 10 day of release as well as the Billboard Hot Country Top 40.
And it’s one he is determined to repay with his 10th album, While the Gettin’ Is Good. The project, released on Sugar Hill Records, marks the first time that the singer-songwriter, a wildly popular touring artist who has produced all of his past efforts, has turned over the reins to a bona fide country music producer in Keith Stegall. The result is Smith’s most ambitious record yet, as well as a return on the investment made by the fans who have supported him since his first album in 2003.
“A lot of start-up acts are using fan-funded programs to finance their record. That’s what my whole career has been: Kickstarter before Kickstarter. When my fans show up and buy a ticket and a t-shirt, they’re investing in what I’m doing,” says Corey. “It’s my responsibility to invest it wisely and give them the best album I can. That’s what led me to While the Gettin’ Is Good.”
It’s also what led him to Stegall, who has produced such radio heavyweights as Alan Jackson and Zac Brown Band. It was the producer’s track record, country-music experience and easy-going nature that convinced Corey that he was the man to refine his signature acoustic sound. “Keith knows how to make country records,” he says, “but I wanted to make my kind of country record and he understood that immediately. He simply wanted to get us comfortable in a studio environment so we could do what we do onstage every night. For me, it was very liberating to be able to focus solely on performing and not be burdened by a lot of the decision-making and drilling down that goes into producing. It was the first time I was able to go into the studio and focus on what I do best. Keith was there to handle the rest.”
